Made iconic by countless New York City emcees like the Diplomats and G-Unit throughout the 2000s, Pelle Pelle’s bedazzled leather jackets saw a big resurgence this year. This time around, Atlanta rapper Playboi Carti was a major catalyst. The Opium leader rocked them on stage in various flavors and even collaborated on his own elaborate leathers that dropped exclusively at ComplexCon in Las Vegas. Not every nostalgic fashion trend is worthy of a comeback, but this is one that we were happy to see embraced by a new generation. –Mike DeStefano

A staple of early 2000s style, the LV Speedy bag had gradually fallen out of vogue until June 2023, when the brand dropped a campaign starring Rihanna walking through New York’s Canal Street with the new Speedy P9 designed by Pharrell Williams. The bag hit stores in January of this year, flipping the outdated reputation of the bag on its head. Pharrell liked to rock the smaller size with a personalized gold chain, and countless other celebrities, from Jacob Elordi to LeBron James, were spotted sporting the bag as well.

The new Speedy, unlike its coated canvas predecessor, is made with soft leather and comes in five fun colors: red, yellow, green, blue, and Louis Vuitton’s classic brown. By offering elevated versions of the Speedy, Pharrell and Louis Vuitton successfully revived an iconic silhouette. –Shinnie Park

Tyler, the Creator’s Supreme tee stands out on our most hyped list of items this year, not just for the legendary status of the portrait tee series, but because of Tyler’s undeniable history with Supreme. In his early career, Supreme was a cornerstone of his aesthetic—whether it was a box logo hoodie or the five-panel camp cap seen in his Yonkers video, Tyler’s consistent use of the brand introduced a generation to Supreme and influenced streetwear culture. This collaboration was a full-circle moment, celebrating Tyler’s fandom and his impact on both fashion and music. While Tyler and his fans have surely evolved beyond simple graphic T-shirts, the Supreme tee serves as a nostalgic reminder of a formative era and highlights the enduring bond between the artist and the brand. –Jamal Desroches

Technically, this released in 2023, but it’s had a handful of restocks since and was consistently worn by people throughout 2024. Akimbo Club is far from the only brand right now making logoless, boxy hoodies in every color, but it is arguably the best one. Ironically, one of its biggest releases features a bit of branding, a squiggly take on the iconic interlocking “NY” logo courtesy of Tyrrell Winston. This was constantly on our timelines throughout the year, and not just worn by residents of the five boroughs. Like the Yankees hat that inspired it, this hoodie has become ubiquitous among the young streetwear crowd. –Mike DeStefano

When Hailey Bieber started teasing the Rhode Lip Case in early February, it sent fans into a frenzy. Initial reactions were polarizing: On the one end, people praised the lip balm-holding iPhone case as a genius product idea, and on the other, critics made fun of the item’s vaginal shape (Perhaps the naming of the product was intentional). A horde of social media users were inspired to either dupe or parody the product by using tape and grippy suction cups, fueling the item’s virality. Amazon sellers also caught wind of the trend and immediately produced and sold knock-off variations. The Rhode Lip Cases, meant to match the colorways of the brand’s Peptide Lip Tints and Pocket Blushes, come in a variety of muted and pink shades, but you’d be lucky to snag the right size and colorway to your liking. –YJ Lee

Vans sneakers are always a classic, but they certainly experienced an upswing in the fashion trend cycle in 2024. The Old Skool collaboration between premium sub-label OTW by Vans and red-hot streetwear brand Satoshi Nakamoto is a big reason why. Fun fact, Satoshi Nakamoto isn’t actually a Japanese designer as some people may think. The name is just a pseudonym, the same one used by the developers of BitCoin, but has no relation to the cryptocurrency.

Satoshi Nakamoto’s olive green Vans made their retail debut in August and swiftly sold out. They stood out thanks to their thick, furry laces, pre-yellowed midsoles, and an abundance of studded pearl details. They were so sought after that the black and white inline pairs from OTW sharing some of the same design elements also sold out when they hit shelves a month later. Looking back, these fell perfectly in line with the embellished trend that dominated 2024, and are one of the items that helped define it. –Mike DeStefano

Release Date: February 2023

Introduced in 2023, the Bottega Veneta Andiamo bag adapts the brand’s signature Intrecciato weave into a simple tote design. Its sliding braided strap and minimalist rectangular structure offers practicality and an understated flex for today’s style-aware crowd. Much of the Andiamo’s draw comes from its carefully curated campaigns and celebrity co-signs. Bottega Veneta’s imagery, often featuring a serene, natural environment, emphasizes the bag’s timelessness and quiet sophistication, while celebrities like ASAP Rocky and Kylie Jenner definitely added to its appeal. –Shinnie Park

T’was the year of personalization and embellishment. A big trend that integrated the two were bag charms, in all shapes, sizes, colors, and combinations.

TikTok played a major role in the rise of the trend, showcasing users curating, swapping, and even DIY-ing their charm bundles. Lori Hirshleifer’s viral video featuring her handpainted Birkin bag—adorned with Hermès Clochettes, a Kelly Idole, and a Yayoi Kusama doll—set the tone for luxury charm offerings. Alongside brands like Miu Miu, Loewe, and Coach, Balenciaga also released bag charms in the form of metal tchotchkes that came attached to the brand’s new Rodeo Bag. –Shinnie Park

Release: May 2024

Shoppers couldn’t get enough of trompe l’oeil in 2024. One of the key pieces that deceived the eye (and went viral) was this pair of jeans by Acne Studios. The baggy pants featured colorful, realistic prints of carabiners, keychains, car keys, coin pouches, bear-shaped charms, and more across each leg that gave the illusion that they were actually dangling from the wearer’s waist. The jeans’ $800 price tag didn’t stop people from purchasing them either, at least according to the hundreds of posts on social media. –Mike DeStefano
