“I can’t talk right now, honey, I’m on a business call. But as soon as I’m done, let’s go for lunch at that nice little restaurant by the water.” Sure, that phrase probably wasn’t exactly printed on the shirt label, but it sure sums up the vibe of George Clooney’s most recent fit.
Spotted out for a bite with Rande Gerber—a business dinner, no doubt; the duo co-own the tequila brand Casamigos—at Nobu in Malibu, the actor was dressed like the archetype of a very busy, very well-heeled dressed rich dude on holiday in Capri.
Starting from the top, Clooney went with a close-fitting navy polo shirt. It’s a style he’s rocked for years, but this particular silhouette—hugging the arms, slim line down the torso, nicely snug around the chest—is a winner. It’s hard to identify the exact one, but judging from that nice two-button placket and short-sleeve cut, this Luca Faloni piece is a good match, and Clooney is a long-time fan of the brand.
Next, he’s got a svelte grey trouser with a nice ease and flow to them, worn with a sandy taupe belt. But the ultimate dad-on-holiday move was his beige suede loafers—worn sockless, to ease the (theoretical) Zoom-to-pool-transition.
And sure, in this fantasy, he may be a dad on holiday—but he’s still George Clooney. To top off the fit, the Ocean’s Eleven actor called in one of his most mega wristwear pieces, the 41mm Omega De Ville Hour Vision. He was spotted wearing this particular piece a couple of weeks ago at the Venice Film Festival, promoting his and Brad Pitt’s upcoming film Wolfs. With a black strap, sapphire crystal side panels, and a sweet little self-winding movement, it’s a big grail that still keeps things subtle.
Clooney has mastered the art of expensive but casual rich dad style, all the elements coming together for a “wealth whispers” wink. It says, “Honey, I’ve got a call with the bonds guy at 3. But gelato after. Promise.”
