No, your calendar isn’t glitching: Labor Day is well over a week away—but the Labor Day clothing sales are another story entirely. Sure, the annual summer send-off might not engender the same discount frenzy as its buzzier counterparts (salute to July 4th), but as August winds down, those sales are popping off like a densely packed rooftop or a bar with ample street access.
So whether it’s your favorite e-comm destination—SSENSE, Mr Porter—or a brand you can’t get enough of (or one you just want to try out), there’s deals to be had. Great deals. Like, deeeeeep discounts on past season’s inventory, sneaky savings on stuff that just dropped, and inexplicable prices on styles that have no business going on sale. Shirts, shorts, pants, light jackets, heavy jackets, shoes of all walks, accessories to level the aforementioned (way) up, and more.
And, as always, we’re here to help you navigate it all, which is why we’ve rounded up those that already flipped the sale switch. And for those of you who don’t see what you’re looking for, we’ll be adding to this list all week and there’s a whole cavalcade coming, so keep an eye out. Happy shopping.
Our Favorite Labor Day Clothing Deals
Abercrombie & Fitch
Abercrombie has been on an absolute tear recently, churning out some of the most well-priced, on-trend, easiest-to-style staples and standouts you can find on any digital (or IRL) shelves. Or, more simply, they’ve made getting dressed impossibly easy. And through August 26, they’re making things even easier, offering 15% off basically everything on the site.
American Trench
We’ve been in love with American Trench socks for ages, but don’t sleep on the rest of the line: their beefy tees are the kinds your kids will steal when they leave for college, their mesh shorts will make you rethink gym shorts entirely and their wovens are, somehow, as comfortable as any of the knitwear. And lucky for you, nearly their entire USA-made summer collection is 30% off.
Banana Republic
If you haven’t noticed, we’re all the way back in on Banana Republic. Like, all the way. And while their storied archive is back on the menu, that’s not the only category spawning the hits: their knitwear is elite-tier, their suiting outperforms competition twice its price and they’ve got a pair of pants for basically every palette. And to stay on theme, you can find yourself savings of up to 40%—in some cases, even more—before you take off for the weekend.
Bather
Bather just might make our favorite pair of swim trunks, period, despite some serious challenges from the competition. But don’t sleep on the rest of their line—particularly their linen shirting. And if you needed any more reason to check it out, they’ve knocked 50% off their summer selection while inventory lasts.
Everlane
Need a basics refresh? Want to plug a hole in an otherwise seaworthy wardrobe? Just like the idea of tracking a package over a long weekend? Well, there’s (probably) no such thing as guilt-free shopping, but when you combine Everlane’s commitment to ethical production with savings approaching 70%, you can get within gimme distance of that goal. And if you’re wondering how much of that upstanding inventory is on sale, the mathematical answer is A Staggering Amount.
Gap
If you didn’t think Gap was getting in on the Great Mall Brand Renaissance action, know that you were mistaken but also that it’s fine because there is very much still time to rectify the oversight. And not only is there time, they’re making it impossibly easy to do so. How easy? From now through Saturday, they’re knocking 30% off any purchases $99 and over, and that also applies to sale inventory, already discounted up to 60%.
J.Crew
J.Crew isn’t shy about sales, but some hit harder than others. Through Saturday, for instance, an insane amount of their summer sale inventory is an extra 50% off, which would be awesome in its own right—summer still has four weeks of official business to attend to and you shouldn’t let academic calendars dictate your life unless it’s your academic calendar. But they didn’t stop there, and included some of their perennial classics in the savings mix as well.
Levi’s
While there’s really no such thing as a “bad time” to buy new jeans, there’s most certainly Good Times™. And this, dear reader, is one of those times. Particularly if you’re hunting for some Levi’s, who’s moved some serious heat into their sale section and also is offering 30% off a transaction with both a top and a bottom. And that means that if you’re looking for something to accommodate a pair of boots, replacing some well-loved regulars or feel like kicking off pants season with some new STFs, there’s something on sale for you this very moment.
Madewell
It’s hard to get more bang for your buck than what Madewell is offering these days—which is basics, staples and a few showier pieces, all designed and constructed with the consideration normally reserved for product twice its price—but a surefire way to do so is nabbing those offerings when they hit the sale tab.
Mr Porter
Mr Porter’s legendary sale is still ongoing—for those into side-quests, there’s thousands of products to sift through, it’s a worthy undertaking—and the savings are bonkers, but it doesn’t stop there. They just kicked off a high-summer sale that’s giving you 20% off a crazy number (3,211, for those doubting the qualifier) of pieces, from basically every brand they carry. And if you move quickly, whatever you snag will get here before you get out of town.
Patagonia
Patagonia is one of those brands that probably never *needs* to go on sale—the stuff that hits hits for years, even the older gear performs at a world-class level—but we’re never going to complain when it does. And man is it ever right now—up to 50% off the entire section right now, which includes some all-time bangers.
To be honest, we get the sense that “Labor Day” (or is it, uh, Labour Day) would mean something entirely different in the UK. Regardless of how you celebrate though—or what, exactly, you’re celebrating—the generous blokes at Percival are offering up healthy discounts on a who’s who of what they do best, including luxe-leaning suits, cheeky button-ups, and, if you’re lucky, an A-list-endorsed knit polo or two.
Ralph Lauren
The American Menswear GOAT, fresh off another Team USA takeover, also happens to have some Gold Medal sales going on right now: if you’re searching out the classics, they’ve marked down a preposterous amount up to 40%, and if you’re looking for something on the higher end, the designer collections—which includes Purple Label and RRL—are 30% off their original price.
REI
REI, the GORP-core superstore, has been known to bypass a traditional sale period, which they do for great reasons and should be applauded for. Labor Day, however, doesn’t appear to be one of them. In fact, if you’re in the market for some outdoor gear, apparel, footwear or otherwise, REI is offering up to 50% off past season gear, clearance items, outlet inventory and more.
SSENSE
The SSENSE sale never sleeps. But it also never falls off—at least if you have the patience to parse through always-shifting, ever-expanding digital racks. And for those with that patience, you’re looking at savings approaching “excuse me?” territory on mind-melting assortment of accessories, apparel, footwear, eyewear and more.
Todd Snyder
From now through August 25, Todd Snyder is offering an extra 20% off their entire sale section, which nets out at savings up to 60%. And before you ask, that includes their preposterously good polos, killer knits, envy-inducing tailoring and basically any other category you’re in the market for at the moment. Oh, and don’t sleep on that footwear section: the curation is awesome, the in-house line is gorgeous and basically every kind of shoe is represented.
Uniqlo
The Japanese retail juggernaut equally famous for its approachable prices and GQ-approved basics is no stranger to a pinch-me deal. Uniqlo’s rock-solid wardrobe staples are plenty affordable to begin with, so when you factor in a celebratory discount, that handsome plaid button-down you’ve been eyeing becomes a total no-brainer.
